Fred R. Kline Gallery
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Fred R. Kline Gallery, owned and directed by Fred and Jann Kline, was established in 1979 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The gallery is focused primarily on American and European paintings, drawings, and sculpture, 19th-20th centuries. Within American art we emphasize historically important artists of the western United States, with a special focus on 19th c. and early 20th c. New Mexico, Texas, and California. European old masters, 15th-18th centuries, particularly paintings and drawings, are always selectively represented in our inventory, as is the art of Spanish Colonial Mexico, 16th-19th centuries. A small group of compelling and talented contemporary artists complete the gallery’s mix.
The gallery’s approach is scholarly, rather than commercial, with an emphasis on connoisseurship, art historical importance, aesthetic quality and, not least, research and development. We are generalist art historians and our interest and expertise is wide ranging; therefore, we remain open and delighted by works of high quality from diverse periods of art history.
Many notable discoveries have resulted from our investigations over the last 26 years. The gallery’s research department, Kline Art Research Associates, specializes in art authentication projects for unidentified and misidentified works. We endeavor to answer questions like “Who did it? Is it authentic?” Consultation with a worldwide network of scholar associates is a standard research practice. And our appraisal division looks into the question “What is it worth?”
